Ballet

Our classes are taken from the IDTA (International Dance Teacher's Association) syllabus which uses a combination of traditional classwork at the barre and in the centre as well as creative improvisation to alternative music.

The first class we teach is Pre Juvenile Ballet, which is designed to introduce 3 and 4 year olds to the world of ballet and balletic movement. It focuses on the development of basic movement skills which are the foundation of all dance as well as encouraging creativity through imaginative character dances. Children will also be encouraged to work with partners and as a group but ultimately to have fun and develop a love for dancing.

From here the IDTA grades begin, with Preparatory all the way up to Intermediate. Students have the opportunity to take regular IDTA examinations which take place at our studio as well as developing a sound ballet technique through the grade system.

Pointe work is offered as part of the higher grades but only once a firm technique has been established, there is no set age for starting pointe as every student will require individual assessment.
